Intelligent humans accept that death is inevitable, and, while not necessarily welcomed, is accepted as a reality. Most of us are less concerned with death than with the dying process. While surveys show that the vast majority of people would prefer to die at home, quickly and painlessly, surrounded by their loved ones, the reality is that most of us actually end up dying in hospitals or nursing homes, hooked up to various machines and medical devices, surrounded by strangers – well-meaning strangers, to be sure, but not our loved ones. In this talk Dr. Marty Seidenfeld, PhD, from the Final Exit Network will describe how we got into this situation and how it may be changed. He will describe how FEN works with individuals to help them achieve the death they want and deserve.
